September 19, 2005Help Needed in Long Beach, MSDear Barbara, I am a teacher in Long Beach, Mississippi. Our school, Harper McCaughan Elementary, was totally devastated. We will be beginning school in mobile classrooms on October 3 with no knowledge of anything that we have nor any knowledge of how many students will be there. Of my 22, I have only been able to locate 3. I have taught school for 37 years and have now lost some valuable teaching materials, not to mention the memorable things that I lost in my classroom. We further have 81 homeless staff members of the Long Beach School District. If you know of any individuals, companies, or schools who would like to help in our efforts to restore our educational system, please let me know by email or phone. Sincerely, Dear Anne, I am speechless. If anyone has the capacity to help, I have Anne's email address and phone number. Posted by: Melissa on October 11, 2005 6:19 PMI am a teacher at Bedminster Township School in NJ. A friend of mine knows Sue Korsagus (spelling?) and told us about Harper. We are so sorry for your loss and plight. I too am a teacher...special education for grades 1,2,3 this year. I certainly sympathize with losing all those valuable teaching resources. Our school has organized a collection of supplies for Harper and its teachers (pencilsl, notebooks, two-pocket folders, scissors, ..... We hope to ship about 30 boxes via Fed EX tomorrow; should arrive in Long Beach at the address of your superintendent for Monday. They are labeled for each grade level and some boxes are miscellaneous supplies. I hope this helps you. Would love to correspond with your teachers and hear about other ways we can assist you...professional to professional.
